The Virginia Papers, Volume 5, Volume 5ZZ of the Draper Manuscript Collection

$28.00

This transcript, made from the 1980 microfilm edition of the Draper Manuscripts (Volume 5ZZ), consists largely of receipt books and other financial records relating to the Cherokee War (or "Expedition") of 1776-1777. It gives insight into not only who participated in this action, but what their precise involvement was (soldier, scout, spy, drover, packhorse driver, etc.), how they were remunerated, and the logistics of this operation on the frontiers of Virginia. Numerous letters are also included. Some of these letters discuss the proposed new federal constitution, throwing interesting light on the opinions of educated frontiersmen. The volume closes with biographies of various notables of the pioneer period from Botetourt County. A full name plus subject index adds to the value of this work.
