Edgefield District was created from Ninety-Six District on 1 January 1800 and contained all the area of current Edgefield and Saluda Counties, the eastern portions of Greenwood and McCormick Counties, and a portion of western Aiken County. Under the constitution of 1868, Edgefield District was renamed Edgefield County. The full name index contains 2,160 entries.
