This volume contains abstracts of nearly seven thousand death notices from sixteen different newspapers. Although these newspapers were published in Steuben County, they include notices for the surrounding counties and Pennsylvania. They also include many notices for people who moved to other towns in New York or to other states. The entries are listed in sixteen different sections, one for each newspaper. Within these sections the abstracts are arranged chronologically. A surname index provides ready access to any name. Information is varied but may include any combination of the following: age or birthdate, names of family members, place of residence, occupation or burial place.
