Marriages and Deaths from Tompkins County, New York Newspapers

$34.00

This volume contains marriage and death notices abstracted from microfilm copies of newspapers available at the New York State Library. Information has been abstracted from the Dryden Weekly News (1857-1870), the Rumsey's Companion (1856-1957), the Dryden Weekly Herald (1871-1884), the Groton Balance (1839-1840), the Groton Democrat (1840), the Groton Journal (1866-1879), the Groton-Lansing Journal (1880-1882), the Trumansburg Advertiser (1832-1840), the Trumansburg News (1860-1864), the Trumansburg Independent (1851), the Lakelight (1827-1829), the Trumansburg Sun (1840-1841), the Trumansburg Gazette (1844-1847), The Herald (1846-1847), the Tompkins County Sentinel (1866-1880), the Trumansburg Sentinel (1881-1884), the Ithaca Citizen and Democrat (1863-1867), and the Ithaca Democrat (1867-1876). These newspapers were all published in Tompkins County, New York, but they include many notices for people living in the nearby counties of Seneca, Cayuga, Yates, Schuyler, Tioga, Chemung, and Steuben, as well as for people who moved out of state. Vital records were recorded by the Town Clerk in New York State beginning in 1885, however not all marriages and deaths were recorded until 1906 when it became mandatory. This book also contains difficult-to-find vital records that pre-date 1885. A surname index adds to the value of this work.
