This church records directory is a condensed summary of information collected from over 2,600 Maryland churches. The first part of the book contains a listing of churches alphabetically arranged by county. The religion is shown, followed by the name of the church and its address if known. Also included is the date that the church was established, and the earliest and ending record dates. Abbreviations indicate the location of the records. Additional information is given if known. The second part of this book contains a listing of names and addresses of churches arranged by religion, alphabetically by county. In a great cooperative endeavor, member societies of the Genealogical Council of Maryland gathered information in their geographical area (usually a county). A procedure was established and a "church records form" was prepared with an instruction sheet. Participants in this project visited (and revisited) churches, telephoned and wrote letters in order to complete the church record forms. The information in this directory has been compiled from those forms.
