The common ancestor of the American Lowells is Percival Lowell (Lowle), who came with his family to Newbury, Massachusetts, from Bristol, England, in 1639 in the ship Jonathan. The text is divided into two main parts which document the descendants of Percival's two sons: the John Lowell Line and the Richard Lowell Line.
