Epitaphs in Old Bridgewater, Massachusetts - William Latham. This book, originally published in 1882, provides approximately 2,500 epitaphs from nineteen graveyards in and surrounding Old Bridgewater, Massachusetts. The author's intent was to "present a complete list of all epitaphs in all old public grave-yards commenced before 1800, with plans and with some account of the old grave-yards of the three towns of West Bridgewater, Bridgewater and East Bridgewater, including all monuments in those yards, down to the present time, and also, most of the epitaphs in private and small-pox yards." For eleven of these graveyards a complete record of epitaphs has been provided, and maps of ten graveyards plot out the grave sites. Further enhancing the value of this resource are supplements from Mitchell's History of Bridgewater which have been parenthetically added to some entries, and a surname index. The appendix includes biographical sketches of Rev. James Keith and Dea. John Whitman, plus several illustrations and a portrait of Dea. John Whitman.
