William and Mary were proclaimed King and Queen in London on 13 February 1689 and in Edinburgh on 11 April. In 1693, in order to pay for the Army and Navy, a poll tax was introduced, being levied the following year. In 1695 a second tax was imposed. All persons living in the Burgh of Paisley at the time are listed, as well as occupation, and in some cases spousal and parental information.
