1860 Federal Census: Tazewell County, Virginia - Francis W. McIntosh and Elise Greenup Jourdan. Every effort was made to insure the accuracy of this book by comparing the microfilm pages against the original census. The hurried writing of the census-taker and the ditto marks used by the surnames can cause confusion in interpreting the census data. Evidently the census-taker used those marks and then filled in the first names at another time--creating even more confusion when he had less names and more ditto marks. McIntosh and Jourdan make this a much more user-friendly version of the census.
