This book follows the Moore family of Fayette County, Pennsylvania. The book is divided into two parts. Part One consists of twenty-one well-researched and well-written chapters on the history of the Moore family from the colonial period to the present. Part Two contains nine generations of genealogy beginning with Josiah Moore (1749-c.1830), of Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Josiah's second son, Abraham Moore (1778-1848), founded the Moore family of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, when he arrived there in 1810.
The book contains brief genealogies of related families such as Blaney, Dutton, Eberly, Hartman, Lytle, McClain, McCuen, Nesbitt, Trump and many others in the historical narrative. Biographies of prominent family members from the eighteenth century to the present are also included. Additional chapters focus on branches of the Moore family who remained in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, and the branch of the family that migrated into Oklahoma and the western states. A thorough analysis of the development of the Moore surname in the British Isles and Ireland is given, and a chapter on early family origins is also included.
The many female lines in the family are given serious attention, thus enhancing the utility of this compilation to the researcher. The book features some superb family photographs, three appendices and a bibliography, and is fully indexed. The result of twenty years of research!
