Will Abstracts, Belmont County, Ohio, Volumes G and H (1839-1856)

$32.00

This is the third volume in a series of will book abstracts from Belmont County, Ohio. The main purpose of this volume (and this series) is to act as an index to the original records. The included every-name index makes it easier to access names of interest.

The typical probate process consists of the issuance of letters testamentary (when there is a will) or letters of administration (when there is no will), followed by appraisal, sale, and final settlement data. However, the recording of those events evolved over the years, which means that some of the records generated are available in other locations within the probate documentation system.

This particular volume abstracts a will book and deals fairly exclusively with wills and their processing. Therefore, researchers would be well advised to search the other probate repositories for recording of administrations and data from other steps in the process which may not be included in this original book.
