At the beginning of King William's War, about 1695, most of the families in Dunstable fled from the Indians to the older and better-fortified towns. For some, it was a temporary absence, but some sold their farms and did not return to Dunstable. As a consequence the genealogies of these families are brief, while those of the families that returned are much more extensive, frequently carried down 6-12 generations.
