Brides' and grooms' names are listed alphabetically in this work, along with the date of issue of the marriage license. This list was compiled from marriage license records at the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis. (Several months are missing from the collection). Each record contained three or four entries: the date that the license was issued, name of the groom, name of the bride, and name of the officiating minister when he reported that marriage took place. In this book the first three entries are shown with an asterisk to indicate that the marriage was reported by the minister. Readers should note that until the establishment of Carroll County in 1837, the eastern part of that county belonged to Baltimore County. Also, note that the marriage records of Baltimore City and Baltimore County remained as one integral set of records until 1851.
