Colonial Era History of Dover, New Hampshire

$41.50

This detailed history covers the large area encompassing the present towns of Lee, Madbury, Durham, Somersworth, Newington, and Rollingsford as well as Dover. The first half of this work covers the early history of Dover in considerable detail. It includes numerous biographical sketches, several seventeenth century tax lists (1648 and after), a militia roll for 1740, and a roster of town clerks and selectmen from the earliest times down to 1855. Two maps augment the text: one shows the land owners on Dover Neck during the period 1623–1723, the other shows Dover village in 1834. The second half of the book consists of genealogies of area families; some cover many generations and indicate the families’ English roots. Many of these families moved on to Dover’s daughter towns or to outlying areas of New Hampshire and Maine.
