Of great assistance in tracing the migration of families to the south and west. Most of the settlers during this early period came from the southern area of Virginia and the northern part of North Carolina, and most - by necessity considering the lack of roads and the opening of new lands - went to Northeast Georgia and eventually Alabama and Mississippi. For these reasons the notes rely heavily on the Virginia and North Carolina records. The addition of notes to the census adds immeasurably to the value of this work.
