Deed books typically contain records of land transactions, mortgages, bills of sale, slave manumissions, powers of attorney, and sometimes marriage contracts. Deed books should always be consulted when doing genealogical research. This volume contains records from Fairfax County, Virginia Deed Book Z, No. 1, 1796-1797, beginning on page 486 and ending on page 550 for courts held 29 April 1797 through 16 October 1797; and from Fairfax County, Virginia Liber A, No. 2, 1797-1798, beginning on page 1 and ending on page 268/269 for courts held 19 December 1797 through 21 May 1798. The three deeds recorded for 21 May 1798 seem to be out of order. Most deeds are recorded in December 1797 and January and February of 1798. An every-name and place index adds to the value of this work.
