McKenzie’s Fighting Fifth: Service Records of the 5th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment Confederate States of America.
Rhea County Historical Society. Transcribed by Carl Campbell.
Taken from the official service records of the unit, the service record of every man in the 5th Tennessee Regiment CSA is given in this book. “The service records for McKenzie’s Fifth Regiment include more than 1,750 men and span more than five rolls of microfilm. …The records here are generally, but not absolutely, in alphabetic order and the index should always be consulted when a record is not readily found or when the spelling of a name is in doubt. The name, in large boldface print, is followed by the rank, usually the highest rank attained and expressed by abbreviations in current use, and by the letter of the company or companies in which the individual served.” Entries also contain muster roll data arranged chronologically. An index to full-names, regiments, and places adds to the value of this work.
