Judge White warmly loved the memory of his pious ancestry, and spared no pains to gather whatever information could be obtained concerning them and their descendants. William White was born in 1610 in England. In 1635, he landed in Ipswich; and in 1640, he became one of the original settlers of Haverhill, Massachusetts. William White was one of the grantees of the Indian deed of Haverhill, dated November 15, 1642. Mary, his first wife and the mother of his only child (John) died September 22, 1681. In 1682, he married Sarah Foster, the widow of Reginald Foster. William died in 1690 in Haverhill. The genealogy follows William White's descendants through seven generations. Entries vary in length, but typically include full name, dates of birth and death, occupation, name of spouse, names and birth dates of children, and varying amounts of biographical information as well as items of historical or personal interest. Numerous vintage portraits and facsimile reprints of original documents augment the text. A brief history of Haverhill precedes the genealogies.
