Greene County, located in the northeastern portion of the state, was created on 5 November 1833 and named for Nathaniel Greene of the American Revolutionary War fame. The historical portion of this materials goes from the beginning of the county up to the time of the original publication in the mid-1880s. The biographical sketches were submitted by the families themselves, therefore, are some what more accurate than other sources.
