Jefferson County, Texas was originally a part of the municipality of Liberty in the Lorenzo de Zavala empresario grant. The county was named for Thomas Jefferson and organized in 1837, thus becoming one of the original counties of Texas. The 1850 Census of this county is very important due to the names of all persons living in the household. This is the first time in the Federal Census that all names are given. This transcription has been annotated with notes other than those found in the original census. Marriages in particular are added when these can be located.
