Sam Williams was born in Paris, Kentucky in 1831. He became a newspaper man and worked on papers in Kentucky and Illinois until after the Civil War. He then moved to Kansas City where he was part owner in two different papers. He came to the St. Louis Post and worked with Joseph Pulitzer. He died in St. Louis in 1928.
