Burke County, one of the original eight counties in Georgia along the Savannah River, was created in 1777 out of Saint George Parish of the Colonial era. Included in this volume are the Crown Grants 1732-1777 with the strange stipulation that when granted, the grantee is to clear at least ten acres immediately and plant one hundred white mulberry trees and maintain that many at all times; Revolutionary War veterans listed by the counties, an index to the 1840 census; legislatures 1777-1908; marriages 1855-1869.
