This volume is a look into Nelson County, Kentucky through two sources. The first is History of Kentucky - by Lewis Collins written in 1882 and the second is Kentucky: A History of the State - by W. H. Perin, J. H. Battle and G. C. Kniffin written in 1885. It begins with the history of the county from 1784 when the General Assembly of Virginia established this as the fourth district in Fincastle County. Nelson has figured greatly in the history of the state of Kentucky.
The biographical section of the book includes families that were generally very involved in the development of the county. These are not just the prominent families, but any willing to share with the writers in the 1880s their story.
