Iron County was erected from portions of St. Francois, Madison, Washington, Dent, Reynolds and Wayne Counties on February 17, 1857 by an act of the legislature. This volume contains a brief history of the county and brief biographical sketches of many of the early families of the county. These family sketches were submitted by the families themselves, therefore, more accurate than most other sources.
