Sequatchie County, located in the middle of Sequatchie Valley, was given the name of the area which was derived from a Cherokee word meaning “trough” or sometimes “hog trough”. These court minutes give the day to day running of the county by the commissioners and include things like road orders, deed transfers, bondage orders for orphans and many other items of interest that involve the local people.
