Clay County is located in middle Tennessee on the Kentucky border and was created in 1870 by the Tennessee State Legislature. The county was named for the American Statesman Henry Clay from Kentucky. These marriage records are the first found in the court house by the workers of the W.P.A. project in the late 1930s.
