Jefferson County, located in upper east Tennessee, was created in 1792 out of Greene and Hawkins Counties and named for Thomas Jefferson. This report to the county commissioners and the state auditors list each of the persons in each district and the number of children they will have in the school for the next period. There are many names in this volume and the span of years allows one to trace their ancestors over a longer period of time.
