1836 Sullivan County, Tennessee Civil Districts and 1837 Tax Lists

$11.50

Sullivan County, located in the upper most part of east Tennessee is one of the few older counties in the state which was at one time part of Virginia. In 1835, the State of Tennessee required each of the existing counties at the time to divide themselves into Civil Districts. The role of collecting the tax per District was only one function of this division. Knowing the location of each of these districts, help the researcher to narrow their search for their ancestor. The tax list is between the 1830 and the 1840 Federal Census and sometimes people move in this ten year period so the tax lists help narrow that time frame down also.
