$16.50

Decatur County is located on the west side of the Tennessee River as it leaves Alabama and travels north to join into the Ohio River at Paducah, Kentucky. It was created in November 1845 from a portion of Perry County that was on the west side of the Tennessee River. It was named for Stephen Decatur, Jr. who had gained national recognition in the First Barbary War and the Second Barbary War as well as the War of 1812. These marriage records are given here in the exact form that would be found in the court house, It lists the couple being married, the date the license is issued and when the wedding took place. Added to this are the name[s] of the surety or bondsmen and the clerk of the court at the time. Typical of all Tennessee counties, this is about the standard form for marriage records.
