1840 Bath County, Virginia Census

$6.50

Bath County, located on the border with West Virginia and yet part of the Shenandoah Valley, was created in 1791. It was named after the famous resort town of Bath England, due to the many ‘hot springs' found in this area which developed into a resort area for the state of Virginia. This 1840 census transcribes both pages of the official census. On the first page we find the names of the head of the households, inhabitants of the household given by age/sex and then the freed color persons. The second page contains the occupations, pensioners names and ages, personal data like blind, deaf etc. and the type and size of the various schools. In many cases, the items is given a “paid by private fund or by public funds”.
