This is the first surviving census for Dinwiddie County, Virginia, since both the 1790 and 1800 censuses have been lost. The manuscript is transcribed in its original form with all beginning and ending notations included. The original is in bad condition, with tape covering some of the data and large pieces of the manuscript's corners torn away. In addition, water damage partially obscures some of the names. The transcriber has examined this document meticulously in over two hundred hours of study and has extracted all of the available and surviving data. This census should be a complement to the fine work of Roger Ward on land taxes in the county.
