The author has produced a thorough and accurate transcription of the land tax records for each year (with the exception of 1808, in which the records are missing or destroyed). Included is the proprietor's name, quantity of land owned, price, total value, and tax assessed. The 1813 record also includes the names of persons holding adjoining tracts, as well as creek and road delineations. In many cases the researcher can identify the year in which an ancestor died by the tax year his land passed into estate status, and the estate can be followed until the land passed to new owners. A full index is provided.
