States included are Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and North and South Carolina. Washington D.C. is also covered.

The author is a native of Detroit, Michigan, a graduate of Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia. His areas of expertise include archives administration, genealogy, and synagogue and community history. Julian Preisler has also authored Through the Years: Congregation Beth Israel of Media, Pennsylvania; Jewish Cemeteries of the Delmarva Peninsula; Pioneer American Synagogues: A State by State Guide as well as numerous articles on local Jewish history and genealogy. He recently authored a book on the history of the Goldman family.

As a child of Holocaust survivors, the author is very involved in the documenting and memorializing of many Jewish Communities destroyed during the Holocaust. He currently serves as the Archivist for the Jewish Historical Society of Delaware and is a freelance genealogist in Wilmington where he resides.
