To bring the United States out of the Depression of the 1930s, the Work Projects Administration was established to create jobs. In Texas, the projects involved making a catalog of each of the departments within each county and listing all of the records each department contained. Today, this is an extremely valuable source of information for those involved in genealogical and historic research. They enable to reader to know what is in the court house departments and what has not survived. One must remember that these records will stop in 1941 as that is when the collection was made. Later records will have to be found in the court house themselves.
