Adair County, located in the northeastern portion of Missouri was created 29 January 1841 and named for John Adair, a Governor of Kentucky. The earliest settlement was called " Cabins of White Folks" or simply "The Cabins". After struggles with the Native Americans in the area, the county settled down to their existence.
