Buchanan County, Missouri, located on the Missouri River in west Missouri, was created 31 December 1838 from the Platte Purchase. Originally, it was named Roberts County in honor of Hiram Roberts, one of the early settlers. In 1839 the name was changed to Buchanan in honor of James Buchanan a U.S. Senator and later President of the United States.
In this volume you will find a brief history of the county, a listing of the early settlers of the county from 1837-1840, the patrons of the Atlas of 1877, and the death register 1883-1893.
