Lewis County, located in the northeastern portion of the State was created in 1833 and named in honor of Meriwether Lewis, explorer and governor of the Louisiana Territory. In this volume you will find the following: brief history of the county, first elections 1833, marriages 1833-1852, marriages 1853-1863, Patrons of Atlas of 1878 and the death register 1883-1887.
With each of the marriage books, there is a listing of each of the officials who performed the ceremony. The Atlas is technically a state census of the citizens of the area at the time taken. In this census, the name of the individual, address, occupation, nativity [where born] and when they migrated to Missouri is given. This is a great boon for those trying to reach back in their ancestors lives.
