Shelby County, located on the Mississippi River in southeastern Tennessee, was created following the Jackson Purchase of 1818 and the county was established in 1819 with the name of Isaac Shelby given to the area. This area of the state was settled by various cultures of people primarily from the Mississippian culture which gave rise to the Chickasaw people of native Americans. In these marriage records, we find the names of the bride and groom as well as the name of their security and the official. The dates of the issuing of the license and marriage date are also given.
