Guadalupe County, Texas Biographies and Southwest Texas History

$15.00

Guadalupe County is one of the older counties in the State having first been settled by various paleo-Indians who were the hunter-gatherers long before the Spanish, French or English came into the area. Alonso de Leon was present here in 1689 and named the Guadalupe River for Spain in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, thus giving rise to the name of the county. In 1825, the area was part of Green DeWitt's land grant. From 1827 to 1835 twenty-two families settled the area under the development of DeWitt's grant. In this volume, you get a brief history of the area and the broader section of southwest Texas as well as a selection of biographical sketches of early families that lived in the region.
