Newspaper items used in the compilation of this book were taken from available newspapers on file at the Barbour and Henry Courthouses, in Eufaula Carnegie Library, and the Alabama History and Archives. Over 11,000 inhabitants from the two counties are named in the marriage and death records, and early settlers throughout Alabama and Georgia also. Many citizens of Georgetown, Georgia, just across the Chattahoochee River, are included. And, as early records of Georgetown were destroyed by fire, these records are also valuable for researchers of that area.
