History of Craighead County, Arkansas


Craighead County was part of the territory claimed for France in 1682. This area was transferred to Spain in 1762 as part of the Louisiana Territory. Later it became part of the Missouri Territory. It was carved out of Poinsett and Mississippi Counties, Arkansas in 1859. It is located in the Northeastern corner of the state at the corner of the Missouri Boot.
