This is a detailed reprinting of the descendants of William Polk of Maryland, who settled in NC about 1750 and through his sons, four of whom were officers in the Revolutionary War, and was the ancestor of the distinguished Polk Family of North Carolina and Tennessee to which James Knox Polk, 11th President of the United States, and Leonidas Polk, bishop and Confederate General, belonged. A brief account is also given of the first 2 generations of Polks in America, in order to show the family connections of William Polk of Maryland and North Carolina and his descent from Robert Polk, the immigrant ancestor of the family.
