These abstracts of Deeds begin with the creation of the county court system in South Carolina, 1785. Laurens County was created out of the Old Ninety-Six District of South Carolina, which at one time comprised the entire Upstate. Laurens County was one of the major paths of migration into South Carolina as well as from South Carolina to Georgia, Alabama and points West. Deeds are a wonderful source for genealogical research due to the many family members being mentioned within. Even though these deeds begin with the creation of the court system, there are deeds within this book that go back to as early as 1769. This book is even of more importance to the researcher since South Carolina did not officially record Vital Records until the year 1911.
