Fairfield County, South Carolina was formed in 1785 as a county in the Camden District. A portion of the county was taken in 1791 to form a part of Kershaw County (along with portions of Richland and Lancaster counties). There is a name and place index, and a separate index for the names of slaves and free black persons.
