South Carolina: Edgefield County

Edgefield County was originally created in 1791 within Ninety Six District and contained all the area of the current Edgefield and Saluda Counties, the eastern portions of Greenwood and McCormick Counties, and a portion of western Aiken County. On 1 January 1800, Ninety-Six District was abolished and Edgefield County became Edgefield District. Under the constitution of 1868, Edgefield District was renamed Edgefield County. Part of Edgefield County went to the creation of Aiken County in 1871, Saluda County in 1895, Greenwood County in 1897 and McCormick County in 1916.
