Tennessee: Chester County
Chester County, located in southwest Tennessee, was the last county formed in Tennessee when created by the General Assembly in 1875. Originally, the area was to be named “Wisdom” County but there was a delay and the county was named official established and named Chester in 1882. The county was named for Colonel Robert I. Chester, a quartermaster during the War of 1812 and later a postmaster in Jackson County.
