Jackson County is located in the upper middle Tennessee section of the state. Jackson County was created in 1801 from parts of Smith County and was named in honor of Andrew Jackson, who at that time, was a judge of the Superior Court of Law and Equity, having since 1796 resigned both as a member of the House of Representatives and as a member of the Senate of the United State.
