Johnson County, located in the upper east Tennessee area next to the State of North Carolina. It was established in 1836 out of land that was originally part of the Watauga Settlements from 1784 to 1788 which was claimed by the State of Franklin under the name of Wayne County. All of the above lands were originally part of the Washington District of North Carolina organized by North Carolina in 1777.
