Virginia: Tidewater region

The Tidewater region of Virginia is one of the three major divisions of the state. Tidewater refers to areas below the "Fall Line", where rivers still display tidal behavior. These counties closest to the Atlantic Ocean tend to be low-lying and were the first areas settled within the Old Dominion.
