Benton County, located on the extreme northwestern corner of Arkansas, was created 30 September 1836 in the log cabin of Judge George P. Wallace who was the first Session Judge of the State. The county was named for Senator Thomas Hart Benton who lobbied for the statehood of Arkansas. This historical section of the book covers the time from the creation up to the time of the first publication of the Goodspeed’s history in the mid-1880s. The biographical portions of the material were submitted by the families themselves, therefore, they would appear to be more accurate than other sources.
